Why I Practice

I discovered yoga in middle school, living in a small San Diego apartment in a neighborhood where it wasn’t safe to play outside. Sports and activities were out of reach—too expensive, too far away. But I had this deep need to move, to express, to feel at home in my own body.

So I created my first “studio” in the corner of our living room. No mat, no mirrors—just a little bit of space and a spark of curiosity. That corner became both a playground and a sanctuary. Even then, I could feel something sacred in my practice.

Yoga stayed with me through every season of life: raising four children, navigating a demanding career in medical research, and later, healing from anxiety, panic attacks, and PTSD. It wasn’t always graceful or consistent, but it was mine—and it helped me come back to myself again and again.

Eventually, I left corporate life to study more deeply at the Santosha School in Indianapolis, where I discovered Ayurveda and began to repair my relationship with my body, mind, and energy. That’s when yoga shifted from movement to self-respect—something sacred and sustainable.

Now, through Resilient Yoga & Wellness, I teach from that lived experience. My work is rooted in the Five Layer Approach™, a framework for caring for the whole self: body, energy, emotions, wisdom, and spirit. These tools are grounded in tradition, shaped by real life, and designed for people who are navigating hard seasons and still want to show up for themselves with care.
